Is it just me, or is the Westboro Baptist Church a modern form of the 13th century Flagellants?

Think about it. They would both travel town to town preaching how everything wrong with the world is the fault of people sinning against God. The only difference is that the WBC doesn't go around whipping themselves. They seem a lot alike to me. What do you guys think?
