What do Baptists think of a Baptist who thinks his god punished him for being nice to his gay brother?

Just because his brother is gay this Baptist I know blamed his brother for the outcome of his bad decisions like there's a connection at all. This Baptist said his god punished him for being nice to his gay brother.
